Tackling the eight-mile loop that is McAfee Knob is no easy feat; getting to the trailhead, however, should be a breeze. Back in fall of 2023, the McAfee Knob parking lot officially closed while crews install a pedestrian bridge over Route 311. In anticipation of this closure, Roanoke County and Ride Source began a McAfee Knob Shuttle pilot program in 2023. Now, the shuttle is back up and running for the 2024 season.

Hours of Operation

From March 1 to December 1, the McAfee Knob Shuttle will run on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays.  Shuttle service begins at 7 am, but final departure times vary depending on the month. In March and October, the final shuttle departs from the trailhead at 6:15 pm. From April to September, the final shuttle departs the trailhead at 6:45 pm. And in November, the final shuttle leaves the trailhead at 4:45 pm.
