Pete’s Pick: It’s Big Wheel Time

At last year’s GO Fest we introduced Roanoke to the High Roller adult big wheels. I hadn’t had that much fun in a long time . . . and I’m no stranger to fun.

Last week Roanoke Parks and Recreation posted a video and ideas for a big wheel outing that I just had to share.

  1. Wake up, put some pants on.
  2. Study your route (you may want to print the map).
  3. Head to UnderDog Bikes and rent a big wheel for $10/hour (40% of rental fee goes toward the funding of future parks and recreation programs). Reservations are highly recommended as there are only four big wheels.
  4. Practice power skids in parking lot (a must have skill).
  5. Ride to Sweet Donkey Coffee House for some fuel (perhaps a double espresso).
  6. Ride to Wasena City Tap Room for lunch and/or beverage
  7. Walk next door for a climbing session at River Rock Climbing Gym.
  8. Continue to Black Dog Salvage – as seen on HGTV Salvage Dawgs show – for some exploration.
  9. Ride back to Sweet Donkey and check out their beer garden. If you happen to score the big wheels on March 21 power skid on over to Forkapalooza at Fork in the Alley.
  10. Return your big wheel to Underdog and give Chris a huge high five.
  11. Walk next door to HITS Frozen Treats for some homemade ice cream (opening for the season April 6).
