Pete’s Pick: Join Me for #100HoursUnplugged

Families – including mine — are taking the #100HoursUnplugged challenge this summer, and committing to spending 100 hours outside instead of on screens. How much time is that? It’s a little more than four days.

But you can break up the challenge any way you’d like. Take a long weekend. Turn off the screens every Sunday in July. Leave the devices at home during summer vacation.

Trade screen time for experiences outdoors that will last a lifetime.

Here are a couple of experiences you can have without leaving the Roanoke Region:

  • Spend the day at Explore Park splashing in the river or exploring the trails
  • Rent bikes (or big wheels) and spend the day on the greenway
  • Roaring Run offers a great natural waterslide
  • The River Rock climbing gym provides a first foray into rock climbing
  • Go tubing or paddling on the Roanoke River

The challenge is being promoted by O.A.R.S., the concessioner of the National Park Service.
